Klonoa (film) is a cancelled, untitled film adaptation of Klonoa that was in the works at Henshin Inc..

Development[]

The film was planned to have an original story set in the same universe as the games. It was to be produced by Rob Peryeda, with Hideo serving as the executive producer, while Hitoshi Ariga was the writer, artist, and character designer.[1][2] On January 19, 2017, Ash Paulsen, then of the YouTube channel GameXplain, announced on Twitter that he had been brought on board as an associate producer.[3] As of January 5, 2019, the project is cancelled. While the reason for the project's demise was never revealed, the last public update for it was that the team was searching for financial and distribution partners.[4] As such, one could infer that the film was cancelled simply because of a lack of funding.

Plot[]

When the project was still active, Rob Peryeda was asked if the film's story would be an adaptation/retelling of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, he said that the film is "definitely not a rehash".[5]

Trivia[]

  • Klonoa's yellow coat may be a reference to the Marvel Comics character Jubilee.
  • Coincidentally, there is a billboard advertising for a fictional upcoming Klonoa movie in R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, it appears on the Helter Skelter course.
  • In 2023, Ash Paulsen would later call the film not getting made “one of the biggest regrets of my career”. [6]
